Product Information

A multivitamin is a preparation intended to supplement a human diet with vitamins, dietary minerals and other nutritional elements.

Until recently doctors reserved recommendations of multivitamins for those whose diets appeared to lack sufficient variety or for women who were planning to get pregnant. Now, seeing that multivitamins are good insurance, doctors are increasing recommendations to include even their healthiest patients. Certain vitamins have been found to have numerous health benefits and play key rolls in our everyday health and happiness. UBB® AtoZ Multivitamins and Minerals are specially formulated with a combination of Lutein and Lycopene to help your body return to its premium nutrient levels and help restore physical and mental energy. Lycopene may aid in maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system, while Lutein may enhance vision..

By supplementing the diet with additional vitamins and minerals, multivitamins can be a valuable tool for those with dietary imbalances or different nutritional needs. People with dietary imbalances may include those on restrictive diets and those who can't or won't eat a nutritious diet. Pregnant women and elderly adults have different nutritional needs than other adults, and a multivitamin may be indicated by their physicians..

Omega-3: Quick Facts

Omega-3 fatty acids are not one single nutrient, but a collection of several, including eicosapentaenic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA). Both are found in greatest abundance in coldwater fish -- and that, say experts, is one reason so many of us are deficient.

Omega-3 fats affect the body in a number of ways, particularly when they are taken at high doses, for example they can reduce blood pressure. It is unlikely that this is the answer, however, as the amount of fish needed per day to achieve this effect is rather more than most people could bear! Omega-3 fats also help the blood to remain clot-free (blood clots can cause heart attacks if they block the coronary arteries) and can reduce levels of fat in the blood, another important risk factor for heart disease.

The fish oil capsules used in this study contained two omega-three (n-3) fatty acids that are believed to benefit heart health: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Certain types of fish can provide these fatty acids as well. However, the levels of DHA and EPA used in this study would be difficult to meet without using supplements. It would require eating as much as 11 ounces of salmon or 15 ounces of tuna daily.

According to the American Heart Association, those looking to protect their hearts should eat a variety of types of fatty fish (such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel) at least twice a week. Those with heart disease should get 1 gram of omega-3s (containing both EPA and DHA) per day, preferably from fatty fish. About 1.5 ounces of fish contains 1 gram of omega-3s.
